In 2018, Hereford County Hospital’s Charity launched a £75,000 fundraising appeal to create a dedicated maternity bereavement suite designed for mothers experiencing pregnancy loss.
The vision consists of three rooms; to provide a delivery room, an en-suite family room to allow partners to stay overnight and other family members to visit in a private setting and a room for counselling.
Upon completion the suite will give families who lose a baby with a private sanctuary to stay in after the birth for as long as they wish to where they can receive the care and support they need at a time of great difficulty. It will allow families to come to terms with their loss at their own pace without the acute pressures of a delivery suite.
The first stage of work has commenced and it is hoped that the project will be completed in its entirety by Easter 2019 with the Hospital anticipating that the fund will continue to be supported after the suite’s initial completion to ensure the unit is always meeting the needs of their patients and their families with available funding to purchase additional items should there be a need.
